Sinn Féin to hold a Peace Vigil for Gaza at Shannon Airport

Published: 28 July, 2014

Sinn Féin has organised a One Hour Peace Vigil at the entrance to Shannon Airport this Friday August 1st. The Vigil will highlight the increasing civilian deaths and in particular those of children by the ongoing assault on Gaza by Israeli forces.

Since the beginning of the current onslaught Sinn Féin have staged events throughout the country. Members of the party's youth wing staged a 24 hour fast to raise funds for the people of Gaza and party president Gerry Adams has called a number of times for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador . His call for the recall of the Dáil to debate the attacks on the Palestinians, has now been conceded by the Taoiseach.

Sinn Féin in Clare demands more action from the county's TD and chair of the Oireachtas joint committee on Foreign Affairs, Pat Breen who needs to a more aggressive on the plight of the Palestinians. The actions of the present government to abstain from a UN vote to investigate Israel for war crimes, was "shameful".

The vigil will begin at 1pm and the party calls for all supporters of justice for the people of Gaza to join them.
